In the fertile plains of Mbarali District in Mbeya Region, Victoria Finance PLC's Kilimo Loan has been quietly transforming lives.
Mariam Mwenda, a rice farmer and mother of four, received her first Kilimo Loan of TZS 800,000 in 2023. She used it to purchase a water pump and quality seeds. 'Before the loan, I was dependent on rain. Now I can irrigate my field and grow two crops a year,' she says.
John Msigwa, a maize and sunflower farmer, used his Kilimo Loan to buy a small tractor hire service. 'I now earn income from my own farm and from hiring out the tractor to neighbours. My income has tripled.'
The Mbarali branch has disbursed over TZS 1.2 billion in Kilimo Loans since 2021, supporting over 800 farming households in the district.
VFP plans to establish a dedicated agricultural finance desk at the Mbarali branch to better serve the growing demand.
